Radu Dumitrescu is a corporatist who gave up his profession to follow his dream. A former bank manager, he turned his life around and took his passion for cooking to the next level. He wants MasterChef to find interesting people who are passionate about cooking, with fascinating stories and eager to learn the greatest secrets of cooking.
Chef Radu Dumitrescu tells us what an ideal dish should look like, but also what matters more - plating or taste?
"It's hard to say what an ideal plate should look like. A dish doesn't have to be just a few ingredients thrown in and done. A dish must have a story and a lot of work behind it. If you'd asked me 10 years ago I'd have said I wanted it to have lots of colours and lots of flavours, now I don't. I've realised that an ideal dish is one that has the simplest ingredients, cooked to perfection with each other. And plating and taste are important. Food also sells visually. The most important thing is taste, but it has to be packaged nicely..", says Chef Radu Dumitrescu.
Chef Radu Dumitrescu also reveals what his favourite food is and what he doesn't want to find on the contestants' plates this season.
"I don't have a favourite dish. It depends on the context. When I'm at my family's in the country I like rooster soup, when I go to a foreign country I like what's going on there, when I go to my friends' I like what they cook... I'm not very picky as long as the food is cooked properly. Of course, the soup with dumplings and country rooster that my mother makes - nobody ever beats that. If I were a MasterChef contestant, I'd cook the dish I know how to make best, even if it's a banal potato stew. I'd love to see some dishes that are part of the contestants' identity.", says Chef Radu.
