The shepherd's pie can be whatever you want it to be, a dish, a pie, a pudding, just make sure the wine is a dry red.
Ingredients
1 kg
minced pork
300 g
minced beef
4-5 or 1,300 kg
potatoes
2-3
onion
2
carrots
150 g
peas
4-5 puppies
garlic
2
eggs
100 g
parmesan
salt, pepper, thyme, rosemary, paprika, turmeric
1 tablespoon
Worchester sauce
tomato sauce
200 ml
red wine
Instructions
Peel, dice and boil the potatoes.
Dice the carrots and onion, peel and mince the garlic.
Place oil in a pan/pot large enough to cook all the vegetables and minced meat. Place all the prepared vegetables and minced meat in the pan on the heat to brown.
Add salt, pepper, thyme, rosemary, paprika, turmeric (I add it to almost everything, be it savoury, savoury or sweet dishes, biscuits, cakes, pretty much anything I put at least a little bit in).
Add a spoonful of Worchester sauce, the red wine and tomato sauce. Cook for a while until the vegetables are al dente.
Mash the boiled potatoes as for mashed potatoes, add salt, pepper. Add the eggs and mix. Add the Parmesan cheese and mix.
Add the meat mixture with the cooked vegetables to a heatproof dish (we used a 26x36 cm rectangular ceramic dish). Spread all the mixture and level it all over the surface.
Top with a layer of peas (optional). It goes very well with both meat and mashed potatoes.
Place the mashed peas on top and spread them as evenly as possible over the entire surface of the dish. You can make indentations from place to place with the back of a spoon or a fork. The potatoes will turn golden in the oven and look very appetising at the end.
On top of the potatoes, the last layer: grated Parmesan cheese.
